Forth Valley Food Festival 2019
October 11th – October 20th, 2019
The Forth Valley Food Fest is a food trail and promotional campaign running from October 11th – 20th, 2019 to celebrate the harvest season in the Forth Valley region. This promotional campaign will highlight local food producers and local food activities under a common theme of celebrating the local provenance of the Forth Valley region.
Here at the Old Mill Killearn we’ve earned a strong reputation for working with local suppliers – we try to be a popular haunt for locals, and foodies from farther afield. We try to use as much local ingredients as possible throughout the year on our seasonal menus and want to help promote local food producers.
FILM SCREENING, DINNER & DISCUSSION
SAT 19:30 OCT 19TH / SUN 17:00 OCT 20TH
We have teamed up with local farm Foragers Foods, and filmmaker Zev Robinson, to create a unique evening film screening and dinner experience, held in the Old Mill’s enchanting yurt. Diners will be treated to a screening of Zev’s documentary ‘The Great British Chilli’ – a film reflecting on the evolution of food over the last couple of decades in the UK. The film has recently been re-edited to include Foragers Foods, a farm growing chillies near Killearn.
The film will be followed by a special three course locally-sourced menu, designed to show how mild chillies can be used to enhance the flavour of a dish without overpowering it. Film maker Zev Robinson, Old Mill owner Alice Silverwood, and Foragers farmer Gary McAlpine will also be on hand for a panel discussion.
Zev Robinson’s documentary The Great British Chilli is a reflection on the evolution of food over the last couple of decades in the UK. Chillies are a fruit that are often associated with excruciating heat, but all the interviewees – from India, Nigeria, Mexico and America – talk about how that their use is about flavour and balance, and how their cuisines have influenced British eating habits. The documentary has recently been re-edited to include local chilli farmer, Gary McAlpine of Foragers Foods, based near Killearn. The meal will prepared using various types of chillies and sauces to reflect the diversity of tastes and uses provided by this magical, varied fruit.
